Westin Portland Harborview Hotel, Portland, ME
IDC Construction completed the Westin Harborview formerly known as the Eastland Park Hotel. This landmark Hotel was built in 1927 and experienced a complete renovation on all 289 guest rooms. IDC performed this restoration along with the expansion of the hotel’s famous “Top of the East” rooftop lounge that overlooks Casco Bay and the city. The city’s largest ballroom underwent some well executed updates including the addition of a large pre-function space and restrooms. This project had its challenges; maintaining the charming history of this hotel, while completely restoring all aspects. The IDC Team welcomed this challenge and completed this grand historical renovation.
IDC carefully preserved the unique history of this beacon of hospitality, in this port city. The team worked closely with historical consultants to ensure the Historical Commissions rigorous standards were met. From the replication of the exterior public front promenade, to the storefront windows that were recreated to keep the historic look, are just some of the historic preservation. The hotel’s original corbels on the top of the main lobby columns were incorporated into the final result and stands as a great example of the ongoing design harmony between the architect, historical consultants, the municipality, the brand, and the IDC Team. The historic Eastland Park Hotel was effectively updated as a Westin brand’s distinctive signature amenities. Two dinning outlets, as well as a day spa were integrated creating a proven positive guest experience, yet maintaining what is uniquely Portland.
The successful transformation of this iconic hotel was no small feat. With an increase of 85 rooms and the doubling the size of the “Top of the East”, IDC will most certainly have a positive impact on owners return on investment. This 90 year old historic hotel has been completely rejuvenated so it will remain a first class landmark in Portland for another 90 years to come.
